West Palm Beach Florida is a little island on the Southwest of Florida. The architecture in the center of the island are cute 1950 houses, and the island bordering the beaches is made up of tall hotels and condominiums.
The island is full of history. Palm Beach Florida is the summer home capital of the rich and famous.
Peanut Island next door to West Palm Beach is surrounded by rumors and speculation as to its history. If you plan on visiting, I recommend not finding out the true history of peanut island, and doing one of the guided tours instead. It is a lot of fun finding out what really happened on Peanut Island.
Guided Boat Tour
The guided boat tours are a lot of fun, and a great way to see the island. Unless you are a billionaire, it may be your only way of seeing the multi-million dollar houses that live on Palm Beach. The people who host the tours are full of character and a lot of fun.
History of Singer Island
Singer Island (West Palm Beach Florida) was named after Paris Singer, one of the children of Singer sewing machine family.
He planned to build a luxury hotel on the island, complete with a 36 hole golf course in 1920.
The depression, and a hurricane, had their toll on this dream. The luxury hotel was abandoned.
In 1940, the island was sold and the development began again. Boom time came for the island in 1950, and the center of the island is full of cute 1950’s homes.
Large luxury hotels and condominiums have come and gone off the shore of West Palm Beach. The area is susceptible to hurricanes that can (and do) clean out the tall buildings easily.
Fishing at Singer Island
The fishing is amazing, and if you go to the dock, you will see individual fisherman’s names, next to their boats for hire. Just find an available fisherman, and hit the ocean for some deep sea fishing.
Cruises to the Bahamas
There are day cruises to the Bahamas from West Palm Beach. On top of the advertised rates (which are generally $99) there is usually over $100 in fees (port fees).
You need a passport to take the cruise, so come prepared.
Ocean views are a must if you visit West Palm Beach Florida. Grabbing a bottle of wine and watching the waves roll in and out is a great way to spend the day.
This view came from a middle class time-share, so it is very possible to attain this wonderful view.
Florida is famous for the beautiful birds in the area. The picture of the wild chicken came from a rest stop in the area. The rest stops have wonderful landscaping, and you never know what wildlife you will see.
