On Saturday, September 25, radio station JQ99, based in Holland, Michigan, will present the “Facts or Fiction Conference.” According to the promotional flyer, this event is “dedicated to examining our true Christian American history, the science behind creation, and the evidence of why you can believe the Bible cover to cover.”
Over the past several decades it has become apparent that much of the spiritual foundation of the United States has been swept under the rug and more or less ignored; students are no longer being taught the spiritual heritage of this country, as secular humanism has taken over the educational system. Evolution is taught to be scientific fact instead of as scientific theory, and students are not allowed to be taught anything to do with creationism as an alternative view. Views of the concept of the family unit have undergone major change as well over the last few decades, and this is a major point of struggle in society today. All of these issues will be addressed at the Facts or Fiction conference, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the DeWitt Auditorium of Zeeland East High School in Zeeland, Michigan.
Speakers at the Facts or Fiction Conference include Chris and Emilee Danielson, who are the morning show hosts on JQ99. Not only are they great humorists, they also are very knowledegable about the issues facing society and the church, and they are involved in presenting seminars on various subjects. Chris will be opening the conference with “If the Foundations Be Destroyed—The Facts About American History.” His session runs from 9 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
Next on the agenda is Russ Miller of Creation Ministries, presenting “50 Facts vs Darwin in the Textbooks.” Russ is a former theistic evolutionist. In his session, he will present the facts of both creationism and evolutional theory. People will be able to look at the pros and cons of both positions and weigh the evidence for each for themselves, and come to their own conclusions. Check out the FAQ section at www.creationministries.org for some interesting discussion topics. Russ will speak from 9:45-10:30.
After Russ Miller speaks, Doug Swink from Zeeland-based Winning at Home will speak on “Facts of Founding Families.” Winning at Home is a ministry which seeks to encourage people to develop Christ-centered homes and provides help and support for marriages and families through many different resources and counseling services. Doug’s presentation will be from 10:45-11:20.
Emilee Danielson will then speak on “The Facts Matter—Why Do You Believe What You Believe?” This should be a very thought-provoking discussion for sure. Do you believe what you believe just because that is what you were taught, or have you come to your beliefs through your own experience and searching out the truth for yourself? And are your beliefs truly grounded in fact, or on mere speculation? Emilee will speak from 11:20-11:50.
Chris Danielson will then wrap up the conference from 11:50-noon.
Tickets are required to attend the Facts or Fiction Conference. They can be purchased for $9.93 either online at www.JQ99.com, or at the door. Zeeland East High School is located at 3333 96th Avenue in Zeeland, Michigan.
For anyone living in the area who is interested in these issues, this conference is sure to be interesting and thought-provoking, as well as informative.
