Randy Quaid, famous older brother of the also famous and successful Dennis Quaid, has been out of the limelight for some years now. Suddenly, however, Randy Quaid is back in the news again, and it ain’t good.
Randy Quaid is better known for his roles in the National Lampoon “Vacation” movies (as a quirky relative of Chevy Chase’s family) and “Kingpin” with Woody Harrelson, um, also a quirky role. I think in real life, his characters may have truly rubbed off.
Yesterday, Saturday September 18th, 2010, police were called to a home in Santa Barbara, California because the owners suspected squatters in their guest house. When the police went to the home to investigate the guest house, Randy Quaid and his wife Evi Quaid were the alleged “squatters” in the guest house. They were arrested by police.
The Quaid’s told the police they owned the place, but the house and it’s land (including the guest house) have been sold twice since the 1990’a, the first time, originally from the Quaid’s.
Their charges were “felony residential burglary and entering a noncommercial building without consent, a misdemeanor” as well as a “resisting arrest” charge for Quaid’s wife, Evi.
What happened to him? Yes he played oddball characters and was an oddball himself, but he was successful and a very, funny actor, but last year in September, the Quaid’s were charged with conspiracy and burglary when they used a bad credit card at a fancy ranch and also separate a luxury resort.
My guess is the obvious. They spent all the money. They don’t have jobs. No one is hiring him anymore for movies, and they ended up leading a life of crime rather than joining the rat race like the rest of us, so we can take care of ourselves and our families. I certainly do not feel sorry for them. They had options and connections. I just feel pity and embarrassment for them. Welcome back to the news Randy Quaid, although I am sure this was now how you wanted to come back.
