A liberal believes in individual liberty and equal rights for all. They believe in maximum individual freedom in respect to personal expression. In addition, they realize this right of expression impassions the instinct of individual survival, and can lead to chaos in society. Therefore, the definition of liberalism creates the need for a large centralized center of authority, or government, according to “What is a Liberal.”
Overall, liberals do not believe in protecting the mores, and sanctions, of the past, they reinvent normal. They believe people have natural rights, and the right to fulfill them how they deem necessary. They believe they can improve themselves through social cooperation, say “Definition of a Liberal.” They believe that a changing society cannot adapt to long-held sanctions, and mores, but government should change to adapt to a changing society. However, all liberal factions in society believe in their right of having their needs satisfied through the changes. Therefore, liberals believe each individual has the duty to work towards the common good of everyone, while, at the same time, having their needs met.
When past mores and sanctions become passé, the Constitution becomes passé, and abandoned, because it does not meet the needs of a changing society. Then the law, backed by government, will guarantee maximum individual freedoms that include the right to express these freedoms in a personal way. The result is no governmental stability, because government will be in a constant state of flux trying to meet the needs of societal changes that require constant changes in policy.
As government strives to meet the needs of all out of necessity it grows, until it becomes all-powerful, and a ruling class is born. This ruling class has the power to choose what needs of which they will fulfill, and a totalitarian government rules.
The idea of socialism looks good on paper, but it never succeeds. All one has to do is look at history. China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, Vietnam and Russia all at one time embraced socialism, today they are Communist. Then one can look at current times, Britain, France, Italy and Greece have tried the path of socialism, failed, and now attempt to revamp their style of government.
A democratic government allows the right to fail, and socialism does not. That is why democracy succeeds, and socialism fails.
