There are tons of applications out there for our cell phones these days. Some cost money, and some don’t. This article – http://tiny.cc/1torm tells us that there are over one million downloaded applications for the Blackberry every day. Just for the Blackberry! With a lot of people having iPhones and other types of Smartphones now, the overall number daily has to be much higher.
With all the different applications out there for your personal use, which is your favorite? I know a lot of people like to play games on theirs and download a lot of those. Digital Trends has compiled their own list of the top apps for iPhone – http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/the-best-iphone-apps/. I have a few of those on the list – including Pandora and Shazam, both of which I enjoy and use often. Otherwise though, I don’t have many that they list.
I don’t like to pay for any apps, so that does limit me to which ones I can enjoy. I would have to say that besides the Facebook/Twitter/FourSquare apps, there aren’t many that I use on a consistent basis. We do use Buxfer, which is a money tracking application that more than one person can be logged into. That’s nice, because we can both enter in how much it was when we filled up the car, or stopped for a coffee, and it’s updated instantly so the other person can know the new balance in our bank account. I use the Sleeplite app when we are visiting family or just can’t sleep. It plays lots of different relaxing music to help you drift off. Our families tend to be quite loud, so it’s the only way of insuring we get the rest that we need!
When I am needing a pick-me-up, I read FML. The little snippets you can read about other people’s misfortunes are highly entertaining. If I want to check movie times I turn to Flixster. When I am on vacation, I can check my gate numbers and such through Expedia, which is helpful. And I also have IMDB on there, because you never know when you need to look up a movie to find out where it was filmed, or look up an actor/actress to find out what other shows they have been in. At least this happens to me a lot, maybe not everyone else.
I do think that the concept of phone applications is a good one. It makes many lives easier, and for that I am grateful. There are a ton of applications, with more being added each day – so I am sure that they will have more and more available that will aid us with everyday chores and issues. I mean, look at the new one that allows you to deposit money to your bank account by taking a picture of the check! Insane!
Have a good Thursday everyone!
