For years, I dreamed of sharing the good news stories – the news that was truly fit to print. When I secured a part-time position with the local bi-weekly newspaper, the Publisher and I were on the same wavelength. He believed that the world and our community needed to hear some really good news for a change.
We discussed the issues: What if we created a human interest column that inspired others? What if we told the stories of ordinary human beings doing extraordinary things? Would people read it?
The simple answer is: Yes! Folks are reading it up!
The world is starving for the stories that shed hope, bring new ideas to life and spotlight those individuals and families who tend to shy away from the spotlights. My weekly column in the Sentinel News called, “What’s Your Story?” and it is bringing people and their accomplishments, both huge and simple, into the spotlight for others to read about and enjoy.
It has only been little more than a month and I am enjoying every single minute of it. I’m off this morning to interview a woman in a wheelchair who has had MS for most of her life. She is so active – I couldn’t interview her on Saturday as she was going horseback riding! Ventilator and all – nothing is slowing her down as she rolls along with the punches that life throws her way.
Later this week, I hope to catch the Salvation Army Bell Ringer who was homeless just 3 Christmases ago and owes his Salvation to a bell ringer. He’s paying it forward, volunteering his time to collect the needed funds to spread the good news and put the “Merry” back into someone’s Christmas.
So, tell me, “What’s Your Story?” If you live in the New Windsor, Newburgh or Cornwall, NY area – I sure would like to listen. Maybe you don’t want to be in the spotlight – but sometimes just stepping up to share your story will help someone else who desperately needs to hear it.
And, if your not in my area, share your story anyway – the world needs to hear it!
