Don’t you just hate days where it just rains and rains and rains some more? Days that you had off from work or school, your time to relax and the weather decides to ruin it for you? Well I bet that many people despise these days, so I sat down with my family and decided to come up with a list of fun things to do on a rainy day. We came up with a pretty big list, consisting of things like board games, movies, exercise etc. If you’re stuck in side on a rainy day, here is what you can do besides watch boring television reruns.
1. Sit down with the family and watch a few family favorite movies, or better yet, if possible, watch a new movie that recently became available on DVD/Blue-ray or On Demand. It’s a great way to stay entertained and also spend time with family members. In our house, we have a collection of Blue-ray movies we keep around, whenever everyone is home and it happens to be raining, we sit down and watch movies. Having On Demand also helps, that way you and your family can watch something new.
2. Get up and get some exercise! Not everyone has a treadmill or weights at their home, but if you do, get yourself off the couch and get some exercise. Even a jump rope counts, it’s good for your health and instead of doing nothing, your improving your health. My household has a gym that we use. It’s equipped with a few machines, a bench press and an assortment of dumbbells and barbells. You don’t have to have state of the art machines or a gym. Go out and buy a jump rope if you have to, they are cheap and are a great way to exercise.
3. Get together with your family and play some games. Whether it’s Twister or chess or maybe Monopoly, it’s something to do on a rainy day. We have more then 10 different board games that we can play. Chess, Checkers, Monopoly, Twister, Poker, Battleships, Connect Four, Game of Life, Uno, Bingo, and Clue. We went out one day and let everyone in the family pick a board game or card game and then we bought them all. A giant family game of Twister is as fun as it gets.
4. If you really can’t think of anything else to do on a rainy day, I would suggest video games, as a last resort to avoid being bored. Get a few fun video games that the family can enjoy. If you love shooters, get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, if you enjoy sports and a have a Wii, Wii sports is a must buy. Look for games that would be fun to play for the whole family. Its fun to spend time together, video games provide a competitive aspect to playing against family members, which in turn adds a fun factor of its own to the experience. This is a slightly more expensive alternative for things to do on a rainy day, but consider it an investment. Kids love video games, and as an adult, I can say that they are a fun way to stay entertained. Even the grandparents love video games.
