A lot of adults seem to think that they should be telling children what to do, all the time. These people are the ones who also tend to think that the only way in which to learn is via “traditional school.” What really irks them though is when children tell them that what they learn in “traditional school” doesn’t apply to their lives. The funny thing is, these children are telling the truth. Most of them belong to a movement that is known as “unschooling.” Through unschooling, children learn everything in a non-traditional way.
Learning How Math Applies To Real Life
While children in traditional schools do math worksheets, unschooled children learn how math actually applies to their life. This is done in a lot of ways, including using measuring tapes and rulers to build things; going to the store and paying for what they purchase; and counting things that they are interested in will often lead them to learn that multiplication is an easier way of doing this. Some activities simply lend themselves more to math, such as gardening, cooking, shopping, designing things and doing household repairs.
Never Get Bored With Learning
One of the greatest benefits to doing school in this fashion is that children will never complain that they were bored with school because there are always great new projects to learn something from. It is in this fashion that children learn that they really can do whatever they want with their life. Oftentimes they will then make a list of goals for themselves and start working towards accomplishing them. Along the way they may even learn some surprising new skills, like how to create a website or the fact that they really enjoy writing and thus they learn about blogging.
Get A Job At A Younger Age
Throughout all of this learning, children will eventually come to a point when they are ready to get a job. Since they are unschooled, they will be able to work more flexible hours and thus they will have an easier time finding a job that is right for them. Just imagine all of the great skills that this new job can teach them!
