Last week’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries” (Season 2, Episode 8) was a thrilling episode indeed. It was action packed and full of suspense and drama that left me, and many obsessed viewers, antsy to find out what is going to happen next. Though we have no way of really knowing what exactly will happen in the coming episodes, I’ve come up with a few theories of my own.
Before the episode was about to end they showed Elijah wake up from his supposed death and pull the wooden stake from his heart. I knew he couldn’t possibly be dead before this scene even took place. The way they showed glimpses of his lifeless body staked to the door during the teary hugging scene and through out the aftermath of the fight scene left me thinking that we were not seeing the last of him. It was way too easy for the brothers to kill Elijah considering he is one of the oldest and strongest vampires “alive”. It was definitely a mistake to just leave Elijah’s body nailed to the door. They should have burned it to be sure they were rid of him for good.
Cut back to earlier in the episode. Elijah ripped off Elena’s necklace full of Vervain and compelled her to tell him where Catherine and the Moon Stone were hidden. I have a feeling Elijah is going to go down in the tomb and find Catherine. Why wouldn’t he? He needs the Moon Stone and a Doppelganger to complete his quest. Will he kill her and take the Moon Stone? Or will Catherine become a new pawn in his plan to break the curse and use Elena for the sacrifice? I think it will be the latter, but we will have to wait and see.
Caroline and Tyler
In last week’s episode, Tyler was struggling with the fact that he is now dealing with the curse of being a werewolf. Since Mason was killed a couple episodes ago, he has no one to talk to about it and is terrified of what will happen on the next full moon. He knows he will turn into a werewolf. He was also wondering why in the world Caroline would cover for him when he accidentally killed that girl Sarah. Through out the episode he constantly pesters her, wanting answers, until he finally sets her off and she basically kicks his butt. Of course, now he’s even more confused. How could she be stronger than him? He pesters her some more until finally she reveals the truth that she is a vampire.
Now, Caroline and Tyler have never been friends. In fact, they really couldn’t stand each other. Towards the end of the episode, after all is revealed, you see them together talking and bonding over their cursed lives. Is this the beginning of a budding romance? Or will Tyler go after Caroline and try to kill her when he finally turns into a werewolf? Considering that vampires and werewolves are arch enemies, what will happen? What will Caroline’s ex boyfriend Matt (who is also Tyler’s best friend) think when he sees them talking and being all buddy-buddy? I have a feeling this is the beginning of a new type of love/hate relationship between the three of them.
Bonnie and Jeremy
I am worried about Bonnie. Her nose bleeds are concerning and it seems that she has been exerting herself to help Elena more and more each episode. Considering her grandmother died during a spell for the very same type of thing, I’m wondering how much longer Bonnie will be around. It seems that Jeremy is also worried about her. The two of them has been spending quite a bit of time together and sharing some intimate and dramatic dialog. Will the two of them become an item or is Jeremy just looking out for his adopted sister’s best friend? The suspense is killing me.
Elena, Stefan, and Damon
It’s still unclear to me whether or not Stefan and Elena are back together. It seems like they might be but nothing was ever said to prove it. After Elijah was killed and Elena was saved by both brothers, she is seen clinging to Stefan with all her might while Damon looked on wishing he was the one wrapped in her arms. Elena looked up and whispered a thank you to Damon but continued to cling to Stefan.
At the end of the episode, Damon shows up in Elena’s room after a sappy heart to heart talk with Stefan. He walks over to her and in my mind I instantly flashed back to an earlier episode. The one where he basically forced himself on her and then snapped Jeremy’s neck when he was rejected resulting in him losing Elena’s trust completely. This time though, Damon was all roses and rainbows. He brought her back her necklace of Vervain. How sweet. Before he gives her the necklace though, he confesses his love for her and tells her he doesn’t deserve her. He proves to her that he is capable of love and has some humanity. Then he erases her memory. Why did he do that? Has Damon finally given up on Elena? I’m not sure that is the case. I think Damon is far too emotionally unstable to give up on his feelings that easily.
Next week’s episode is sure to hold some of the answers to these questions. I could be right, but I could be way off, which is something that happens often with this show. I doubt it will all pan out as obviously as it seems. Again, we will all just have to wait and see.
