If your computer is running slow or has annoying popups that bombard you every few minutes then you know your computer needs some work. But do you really need to take the computer to a technician? How do you know if the problem is something simple that you can fix yourself or if you need a specialized computer technician?
First thing you will need to do is figure out what’s going on with your computer. Can you determine it is in fact a virus or spyware that has infected your machine or is it some other problem that lies in the hardware. First thing to realize is software is the cause of computer slow downs. Hardware will run at the same speed for its lifespan. If a piece of hardware starts to fail it may slow down or crash the computer but usually will fail completely without much warning at all.
What you’ll need to do first is run a full system scan using updated antivirus software. Remove any viruses or threats from the system. You’ll also need to run a spyware removal tool also. Make sure both programs are updated with the latest virus and spyware definitions. This is very important. Next you’ll want to make sure your operating system is updated. Finally go to your add/remove programs and remove any programs that you don’t want or use anymore. Once you’ve done all this your computer should be back up to speed. If these remedies don’t work then you may need to contact a technician.
Many people have a family member that is good at computers and may seek their help first. While this may save you some money it also may cost you if they aren’t familiar with the system or how it functions. It’s best to take your computer to a reputable dealer and have them service the PC. There are many places today that offer computer service, even some of the retail chains have sections dedicated to service computers. Taking your computer to them allows you to have a better guarantee that it will function correctly after they work on it.
