When I woke up this morning to the brisk, 30 degree reminder that Halloween is over and November has begun, I was both cold and eager! Good riddance Halloween! Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween, but this year my excitement for Christmas has already begun. Perhaps because all the stores were displaying Halloween and Christmas decorations at the same time…and my eyes naturally wander over to the sparkling snowflakes rather than bloody zombies. Go figure. Whatever the reason may be for my Christmas spirit, I am ready to shop, decorate, sparkle, wrap, and cut people off in the aisles of Toys R’ Us!!!
But when is it okay to put up the tree? When I asked friends and family this question, the most common answer was the day after Thanksgiving or December 1st. But, if the stores have begun selling the decorations early this year, maybe my house should join in on the sparkles and frost!
Is it okay to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas as one, long Holiday celebration? Intersecting turkey and snowflakes? This year, with a 4 year old, a new baby and a new house, I say yes. In fact, if this Christmas is your baby’s first, or your first Christmas married, or your first in a new home…then I say, go for it! If you have any reason at all why this Christmas is a special Christmas, then why not drag it out and really get into the spirit. Pull out the holly and the mistletoe, light your evergreen candles and relish in the moment. Make your Holiday memories last. Decorate, celebrate and make memories.
So let me be the first to say Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!!!
