For Call of Duty fans, the wait is finally over.
Call of Duty: Black Ops officially came out today. The first-person shooter is developed by Treyarch and published by Activision and was released for PC (Microsoft Windows operating systems), the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS consoles. It’s the is the seventh installment of the Call of Duty series and the third game in the series to be developed by Treyarch.
Even before Black Ops launched, pre-orders for the must-have title soared. Pre-order sales surpassed those of Modern Warfare 2 and the game is predicted to sell a staggering 12 million units in the long-term.
Retailers across the U.S. and around the world did pump out some incentives for gamers to buy Black Ops early and before it came out. While the game was still usually sold at it’s regular retail price of $60 ($59.99), some bonuses from retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart included $20 gift card good for another video game. Others opted for a small discount of the $60 price tag.
Come release date, however, the bonuses were gone, forcing some gamers to pay regular price if they really wanted the game.
So, when will there be a price drop for Black Ops? Unfortunately, gamers will have to wait a while for a permanent price cut.
Like other new titles, especially the popular ones, price drops are rarely seen in the months following the game’s release. Black Ops’ price will probably remain $60 through the end of the year.
With that said, there’s always the possibility of sales, though. Keep your eyes peeled at retailers like Best Buy or Amazon.com for maybe a $5 or $10 at best discount soon. Black Friday is coming up, too, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, if you really want to play Black Ops right now, your local Costco should have the lowest price available at about $53.
