Sometime around April 2010, signs began being posted up and down Fulton Street that there would be an Aeropostale clothing store arriving in the area in the fall of 2010. Fall has now been here for a week or two and there is no clear signal of when the store will actually open its doors. The building still looks exactly the same as it did a few months ago, and it is leaving many who were anticipating the grand opening now wondering when will it open, if at all.
The announcement of Aeropostale opening on Fulton Street made huge headlines in the Downtown Brooklyn section because the typical clothing stores on Fulton Street don’t offer the same style of apparel that they would offer. With the entire area changing in numerous ways, the type of clothing being sold in that area was welcomed by many. Now, however, there is no telling when the neighborhood will be graced with the clothing company’s presence.
There is a possibility that the construction that is currently taking place on Fulton Street has something to do with the delay, but I don’t think that is the true reason for the hold-up. There are some reports that have surfaced over the past month that say some of the company’s top figureheads are currently being investigated by law enforcement officials on charges of wire and mail fraud, conspiracy and money laundering, but it is anyone’s guess if that is the reason for the hold-up. One thing is for certain the next time I walk by 474 Fulton Street. I truly hope the doors will be opened, but I won’t be holding my breath because there is no telling when it will happen.
