If you see 208 flashing on your caller ID but do not recognize the phone number, you are perhaps asking yourself, “Where is Area Code 208?” As usual, the internet has the answer – read on.
Where is Area Code 208?
As reported by Wikipedia, area code 208 covers the entire state of Idaho, and no other area. So we can say with absolute certainty that the call you received originated with a phone registered in the state of Idaho. Of course, that does not narrow down the location of your caller too precisely. For one thing, Idaho is large – the call could originate from Boise, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Mosco, or any number of small cities aross the state. And for another, the fact that a phone number is registered in Idaho does not necessarily mean the caller is in Idaho – my cell phone, for example, still carries a phone number from a prior area code that I lived in.
Who is Calling Me from Area Code 208?
So who is calling? It could be your cousin who lives in Blackfoot. But if you don’t have any cousin in Blackfoot and don’t know anyone else in Idaho, it could also be a telemarketer. Use the web to find out whether the same number has been calling other people. Here’s how:
Visit 800notes.com, callferret.com, or another of the services that reports on telemarketing and other nuisance phone numbers: try www.800notes.com/AreaCode.aspx/1-208 or www.callferret.com/area-codes/208-area-code.html). At these sites, you will find user-generated comments about unwanted calls people have received.
If the number that called you is not identified on those pages, and you can’t think who else would be calling from Idaho, it could easily just be a wrong number.
