Why are attacks increasing as we pull out of Iraq? Did we make a difference or did we just leave a nation in distress? Can Democracy ever be achieved in the Middle East?
Here are four reason’s attacks on civilians, police and military will continue to increase now that we are pulling out of Iraq:
Reason 1: The country was never really secured this was only a false assumption. Our troops for years have simply policed a place that they new would explode when the United States pulled out because of our failure to properly engage and dismantle the enemy.
Al Qaeda was never really defeated and their leader never brought to justice. What was the point in our being there to start with? All we accomplished was getting Saddam Hussein out of power but nothing more.
Reason 2: The Iraqi people that accepted western ways will be singled out and attacked on a regular basis now that the United States is pulling out of Iraq. The United States can train them and place them in positions of power but can not make the mass majority respect them for that authority.
The United States military could not stop attacks while they were there in force. What makes anyone with common since believe things will get better now that we are scaling back our troops?
Reason 3: The Shiites and Sunnis have been fighting long before we arrived in Iraq and will be fighting long after we are gone. Peace cannot or will not be brought between these two except on paper. The two beliefs are as different as Protestants and Catholics. These two may sit down and talk but will never be one in their beliefs.
Reason 4: People will say or do anything when they are confronted with a superior fighting force. They will waive the flags and proclaim Democracy but there allegiance may be somewhere else. Muslims do not like Christians or Jewish people the hate they have for these two is truly what unites them.
The Iraqi’s accepted our ways as long as we were beneficial to them but now will return to the ways of their ancestors. Iraq has long since been a nation of proud people and have a long history of displaying this.
Peace for the time being or the illusion of peace has now began to crumble and will continue to do so.
