For many years young children and adolescents have gone through years without health insurance. It’s know that as a child you can only be insured by your parent until you reach a specific age after that you are to take care of yourself. So what happens when you’re in college taking out loans and money you don’t even have? You also have to worry about hospital trips if any emergency occurs , you’re sitting in the hospital worried that they won’t take you because you don’t have insurance . Of course it’s not our fault but there’s nothing we can do. What happens to the child or teenager who visits a hospital or has major surgery gets it done and then gets a bill he or she cannot pay for. “More than 20 million young Americans went without health insurance in 2009” (Linsky) .Citizens of older ages are not the only ones impacted by what’s going on in America but the most affected are the children of this generation. People may think that they don’t understand or see what’s going on but on a daily basis we have to worry about what’s to happen to our future.
As of late there have been many reports on President Obama and the House of Representatives battling it out with bill after bill on deciding what is to become of the people and the nation. Is it fair to us? I think not, the fact that the President is trying to make something out of this is great. But why did it take this long for Young Americans to get acknowledge. Young Americans are one of the most neglected groups when it comes to health care, thousands of Americans under the age of 65 don’t have health insurance.
It shouldn’t have taken this long in time for young Americans to finally start to get notice and no longer be invisible. For years young Americans have been put aside and ignored. It may be due to the fact that people think that we have no worries of what to come but like all people we must soon face responsibility. It’s not justifiable to leave us with no type of assistance when it comes to our health, because only then would those who chose not to help be the blame. Why can’t health insurance cover someone until they are out of college and are finically stable to provide for themselves? It doesn’t make sense to take away someone’s health coverage who is unemployed or in school. The most that can be done is find out before hand once a teenager turns 19 are they able o provide for themselves.
The typical age is 19-29, who end up going without health insurance. Even so, young people report a large number of cost-related health care problems, such as foregoing needed care, failing to fill a prescription because of cost, and skipping preventive care because they lack coverage. Is this what America wants for many young Americans to go without health care? The only results you can get from this are young Americans who end up dead or raise the percentage of illnesses and diseases. By the time some of us reach 35 we will be piled up with bills from our loans from college down to health care. We will be in so much debt that it would hard for us to succeed in life.
It has been proven that this past election out of all election has gotten the votes of many teenagers from the ages of 18 to 29 this was very rare because other elections we were not voting as much. So if this is the case we should no longer continue to be ignored. We should have never been ignored to begin with. The health care reform bill will help millions of Americans. But it means the most for young people, a group it protects in the present and offers unprecedented opportunity for in the future. Regardless of where you come from, who you supported in the last election or where you are going, young Americans are going to benefit immensely from this bill. “It unlocks opportunity” (Linsky). Children with pre-existing conditions will be covered. Under the current system, insurers have the right to deny coverage to kids with pre-existing conditions, leaving families with the brutal choice of paying out of pocket or using the emergency room as their doctor and incurring massive debt. For example a simple visit to the emergency room can cost up to a $1,000 and though a person can go to their doctor without insurance they know they will not be attended to without insurance. So instead they go into the ER knowing the ER will not reject them instead just bill them.
These policies need to both become more widespread and provide preventive care for a gamut of illnesses and care common in young adulthood. Further progress is still necessary, especially for improving coverage that matches young adults’ needs. Health care is a worldwide issue, just because young Americans are soon to be covered doesn’t mean they will get the attention that should have been given years ago. The world is so concentrated on the war and, that they look pass more important issues that involve the health and conditions of the people they are trying to protect. The money that is being given to continue this war and money that is going in out of America can be put to better use. The reason this is important to young American’s is that we already have other issues we are dealing with. Students going to college are worrying about taking out loans money we are thankful may fund us, but as of lately that has also been an issue, many of us who may not be funded fully are in fear of losing our financial aid. Not having health insurance will have the majority of us running to banks or asking our parents.
If you have notice millions of Americans are in debt and will never get out of debt. Taking so long to try and make changes now for health insurance has created massive debt in time. This issue should have been dealt with before it would have prevented so much hospital bills from going unpaid. Perhaps even young Americans from avoiding doctors and getting illnesses they may not have a clue about. It’s not fair to us as young Americans just like it not fair to thousands of places that don’t receive payment for their services. Think about it if you were a young American and had an injury but knew you wouldn’t be able to pay for your visit would you go. No, you wouldn’t why for the simple fact you don’t want to be in debt. So many of us know when it’s time to go to the dentist or get a checkup but not having the coverage leads many young Americans in danger of any type of sickness down to diseases that we would not be aware of if we don’t go to the doctor.
Yes we have health departments that can help us yet, that’s only the half of it they don’t help you when you have a sickness that involves surgery. No they can’t help you when you’re in a life and death situation. We are the children of tomorrow isn’t it only right to give us an opportunity with everything else going on around here. For years we never voiced our opinions and now we have that opportunity so why not take it. Why not stand up for what we believe should be heard and what’s right for us. since we need it to continue in the future were trying to change for the better so things have to change someway somehow and it has to start with preventing what will affect us in a negative way in the future.
Healthy citizens make a healthy nation. The healthier you are the more you can work, the more you can work the more you make, pay in taxes and spend on crap. It would help the economy if people would give it the time that it needs. Young Americans make most of the population in America so there for we have a right to sill is insured. If our parents are working hard to provide for us why not give us the benefits that come with. It’s not to say that parents do not work for the insurance they receive many of them receive insurance as a benefit from their job. If everyone receives health insurance including Young Americans there would be less debt and when it comes to tee economy it wouldn’t be as bad as it is now. Plus it will save many American and young Americans money.
Now that the bill has been passed the consequences of it, is that now everyone will be insured longer with that being said young Americans do not have to worry about running away from bill collectors, or having to end up in debt. This also helps the doctors get paid for their services. You will also have less people going around with illnesses they may not be aware of, which would decrease the rates of death due to diseases or illness that can be cured. The bad thing about the health insurance bill is that America would be that it will not add a cent to the deficit. Meaning America would use money they do not have to provide for others, but this alone is Americas own fault for choosing to put other things before their own people needs.
