I tune in each day and see how Dr. Phil tries to assist people with ” being real.” He has a variety of situations and challenges to deal with. Some of the most touching are people who have an eating disorder and are slowly killing themselves. He does everything he can to show them the harm they are doing to themselves and their family.Usually at the end he will give them a choice of staying with what they are doing or going for treatment.
He is straight forward while at the same time appearing to care deeply what happens to them and their family. At times he has to be hard on them to get through the denile and illness. He has experts to help him and he doesn’t try and “fix” something in forty-five minutes. He gives them options and tries to head them in the right direction.
He gets top notch professionals to help and usually follows up to see how they are doing. Some of the people revert back to old ways and he steps in to try and get them back on the right road.
He combines caring while at the same time giving information which is helpful for all of us to know, even if we someone in our family doesn’t have the problem that they are discussing that day.
In California it’s on in the afternoon and night, which is nice for people who are working. So- if you would like some helpful psychological information you might want to give it a try.
