LeAnn Rimes has had a tough time of it recently in the press. She has been vilified as a home wrecker after she and Eddie Cibrian started an affair while working together on a project. Both were married at the time and both marriages imploded because of the affair.
My question is; why isn’t Eddie Cibrian being treated just as roughly as LeAnn? After all, he not only left his wife, he left a couple of children behind as well. LeAnn had no children. But she has, by far, gotten the worst of the press’s attention and name calling.
I sure do not condone either of their actions. Infidelity is infidelity and both are at fault. It just has been and continues to be semi-ok for a man, but when a married woman does it, all sorts of name calling begins. We have seen the ugly consequences with Tiger Woods and Jesse James. The press was all over both of their indiscretions, but if the women involved had not come forward and basically blackmailed these men into confessing, those in the know would not have come forward and outed the men. Why? Because in our society, it is expected that wealthy, powerful men have mistresses. It has been that way since forever. But should a woman stray, she is either killed, i.e. Iran, or branded with a scarlet letter, figuratively speaking.
It is time for equality for men with this issue. If they cheat on their wives, they should be treated just as roughly in the press as is a woman. They should be treated just as badly by their neighbors and friends as any woman is who is not a celebrity. It is time for this antiquated double standard to end. It is time for infidelity to end, but that won’t happen. So as long as human beings are acting just like human beings, we should be all treated as equals.
Start blasting these men in the tabloids and on tabloid television just as badly as you do the women. I do not know if it will change any behaviors, but it sure would make me and a whole bunch of women feel much better. We fought for equality and still are fighting for it. It is time men get the same treatment as we do. Anyone have a scarlet letter “A” we can send to Eddie Cibrian?
