Many people, whether they are Christians or not, choose not to participate in Halloween. Some may not get involved due to religious convictions and some don’t like the idea of their children going from door to door in this world that we live in. This day is nothing but evil and it celebrates Satan. Just do some research about the meaning of that day and you will see that nothing glorifies God. The whole meaning behind this day, is evil. There is nothing heavenly about witches, ghosts, goblins, etc. This day is definitely dedicated to the devil and his angels.
Today, my mother admits that her and my father were ignorant years ago and she says now that they should have known better. I say this, because my siblings and I used to go out trick or treating. Over the years, she has learned more and more about this holiday and the meaning of it, and has felt convicted.
For a few years now, she has not wanted to open the door, just not to participate anymore. In the mean time, she does not want to be rude to the neighborhood kids. After all, they do not understand why you would not want to open the door, especially if they know that you are home. We do want to show God’s love to them, so for a long time she did not want to appear as if we were ignoring them. After recently reading an article online about the dangers of Halloween, she has already made her decision not to open the door in the future.
You can also turn things around and help spread the love of Christ if you do choose to open your door. Many churches have Halloween tracts which are small pamphlets with a message inside. They usually have stories and there is always something mentioned about God. These also contain fun word searches and activities for children. I would actually prefer doing this than not opening my door at all. You can appear to be somewhat snobby and you don’t want to give anyone that impression. So you can actually turn this evil day into something good and it is also a great way to be a witness for Jesus.
There are many Christian families and other religions who do not want their kids to be a part of this day. I visited a private Jewish school one day on Halloween a number of years ago. I expected the children to dress up, but I was amazed to see that this particular school did not participate due to religious beliefs. As a teacher myself, at times you see children sitting in the office during the parades and parties at school because their families do not take part in this holiday. I have also seen some children stay home on this day just not to participate.
Many churches offer an alternative to Halloween and they call it a harvest festival. I would say that this is 100 times better than going door to door trick or treating. If I may add, it is a lot safer too considering all you hear lately in the news. At harvest festivals, there are usually rides, games, prizes, and plenty of candy. It is a night filled with fun and kids just love it. My church had over 1000 people last week for their harvest festival and everyone had a blast. This is a free event with most churches and it is a family night too. My church does not have 1000 members, so people tell others about this event and they bring their friends. This shows how many do not care to be a part of Halloween.
If you do not want to partake of this holiday in the future, you can find many churches in your area that have harvest festivals. The kids will have so much fun and they will be a lot safer. You don’t need to worry about pedophiles, if anyone contaminates the candy, and other safety issues. I’m so glad that there is an alternative to Halloween.
