We are now 7 episodes into the supposed final season of “Smallville” with the latest episode “Ambush”, which is yet another example of “Smallville’s” less than great performance this season. In this episode, Lois’s father (who has been targeted for assassination) and sister visit the farm to stir up some trouble and ruin Clark and Lois’s relationship. The series had so much potential last season. Quality was up in seasons 8 and 9 and was seeing a revolution after many years of using a tired formula. The stories became darker and more complex, the dialogue was better i.e. Clark Kent started speaking intelligently and the rest of the characters followed suit. Although people may scoff at talk of “intelligent dialogue” on “Smallville,” don’t forget the cycle of the same dialogue in every episode they used to have and the stagnating storyline. But here is the return of the pre 8th season formula.
Clark and Lois: Show Killer
The show is now focusing on the romance between Lois and Clark while his superhero antics have taken a back seat. What’s disturbing is how unlikable they are as a couple. They’re relationship seems shallow and childish, and Lois comes off like the stalker of her own boyfriend when she constantly compares him to a god, which just seems completely out of character. And while we’re on the subject, why does she check Clark out constantly. Haven’t they been together for a while now? It’s as if she’s not Lois, she’s a creepy doppelganger.
New Suit vs. Old Suit
The latest addition to “Smallville” is Clark’s new crime fighting suit: a red leather jacket with blue shirt and slicked back hair. Obviously, they are leading up to him wearing his iconic Superman costume, but did they need really change his costume, and if so, why don’t they call him “The Red Blue Blur” again. He is colourful again. They probably should have taken a little more time to design his new outfit because he looks less like Superman and more like a greaser.
What to Look Forward to in Season 10
Things are looking up for the rest of the season and hopefully this relationship heavy first part of the season is a plot element that needs to run its course before the real action starts. All the original cast members are supposed to come back this season. Sweeps will have a lot to offer for the next episode “Abandoned” where Green Arrow’s real life wife will guest star as an enforcer with a Freddy Krueger glove and Teri Hatcher shows up as Lois’s mother.
10 Problems with “Smallville” Season 10 That Need To Be Fixed
1. Clark’s crime fighting suit
2. Too much Lois
3. The Clark and Lois’s relationship
4. Cast problems: it’s too small
5. Lack of Justice League
6. Less action than usual
7. Green Arrow does nothing
8. The dialogue needs to improve
9. Please don’t say things like “pure of heart” anymore: he is Superman, not Frodo Baggins
10. It’s not serious anymore
