Microsoft’s new pricing model for its Xbox Live Gold memberships is stirring up quite a bit of controversy, but lying within the changes of the November 2010 XBL price changes may be the best XBL value ever; the Xbox Live Family Plan.
Microsoft has caught lots of flack after they announced their decision to increase the prices of their Xbox Live Gold membership subscriptions – namely, the jump from $50 to $60 for the 12-month XBL Gold subscription – but the $10 price bump of the 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription isn’t the only price change that’s coming to Xbox Live after November 2010.
The November 2010 XBL price hike will also introduce a new Xbox Live Family Plan subscription membership that is by far the best value Microsoft has ever offered its Xbox Live members. Xbox Live is gearing up for the new Xbox Kinect and a slew of new Xbox Live-ready game titles and features. In order to make the Xbox 360 a more family friendly device Microsoft will offer a new Xbox Live Family Plan that will allow up to four 12-month Xbox Live subscriptions that can span across multiple Xbox 360 consoles for only $99 a year – the current price of two 12-month Xbox Live Gold membership subscriptions.
Four 12-month Xbox Live memberships for only $99 will give family members the opportunity to play Xbox Live for only $25 a year each and allowing Xbox Live Family Plan memberships to span across multiple consoles will help to avoid everyone crowding around the family room television to play XBL.
The Xbox Live Family Plan subscription membership will also add lots of parental controls that will allow parents to restrict mature content, mature games, and decide what features are appropriate for their children. In addition to the low price and parental controls of the new Xbox Live Family Plan that’ll roll out on November 1, 2010, the Xbox Live Family Plan will also feature a new dashboard item called Family Center that’ll allow exclusive family content and other XBL discounts.
The Xbox Live Gold membership price hikes have lots of people accusing Microsoft of being greedy, but the Xbox Live Family Plan shows that Microsoft isn’t as bad as they are being made to be and the Xbox Live Family Plan is by far the best Xbox Live subscription to ever hit Xbox Live.
