The 4th generation iPod Touch has recently been unveiled and much like the three other generations of iPod Touch’s, Apple would love nothing more than if you dropped your current iPod Touch in favor of the iPod Touch 4G’s new features. The iPod Touch 4G would be a great MP3 player if you’re in need of one, but if you already own an iPod Touch, you might want to pass on the latest edition.
Apple does an extremely great job of not including features in their devices only to add them in later releases in order to get you to buy the same products over and over again – with the difference being an added number followed by the letter “G.” When it comes to the iPod Touch 4G, Apple really did muster up quite a bit of additional features – from the iPhone – that were added to this generation’s iPod Touch, but the only big feature worth upgrading for is the new HD video camera that was added to the new iPod Touch.
Sure, the new iPod Touch features FaceTime, a new Retina Display, multitasking, and Game Center, but none of those other features really stack up to the addition of a new HD video camera – and even the camera is a bit overrated. The entry level 4th generation iPod Touch (the 8GB version) will cost $229.99 and at that price, you’d be able to buy a much better digital camera that also captures better HD videos.
The new iPod Touch 4G does look a bit “spiffy,” but how many features does one really need with an MP3 player? The new 4th generation iPod Touch won’t make your music sound any better than it does with your current iPod Touch and I’d only recommend purchasing the new iPod Touch if you were looking to upgrade your iPod’s capacity, don’t currently have an iPod Touch or if you use the other features of the iPod Touch a lot more than you use it as an MP3 player – and if those aren’t the cases, I’d stick with your current iPod Touch instead of opting for the 4G if I were you.
