Will American Men Sneak a Peek at the Anna Chapman Maxim Photos?

by bog bit

Anna Chapman, a Russian spy that the NY Daily News notes was deported from the US earlier this year, is gracing the pages of another publication today. Only this time, she isn’t being criticized-she’s being ogled. The Anna Chapman Maxim photos have been leaked online. The photographs, which appear in a Russian version of Maxim magazine, show the spy half-naked and flaunting everything she’s got. Will the Maxim photos change the way Americans feel about the Russian spy? If you’re an American man, they might.

Who is Anna Chapman?

Before making waves with the photos, Chapman was part of a Russian spy ring in the US, according to the Baltimore Sun. The spies were discovered and sent home over the summer. Since returning, various news outlets report that Chapman received high Russian honors for her work as a spy.

Where can you see the Anna Chapman Maxim photos?

The pictures aren’t appearing in the US versions of the magazine. Instead, she’ll grace the cover of the Russian Maxim. While there are a few leaked photos online, the release of the entire magazine and additional photos have been withheld.

Is Anna Chapman the most controversial figure to grace the pages of Maxim?

Maxim, a men’s magazine boasting half-naked women and a plethora of man-geared articles, hasn’t shied away from controversy when selecting cover models in the past. Shannen Doherty and Paris Hilton have graced the pages of the American version of the magazine, though reported bad behavior is hardly in the same category with espionage. In fact, most of the controversy surrounding Maxim’s models has been contained to the Top 100 list, and whether or not each of the women to rank deserves the honor.

Do the Anna Chapman Maxim photos cross an ethical line?

The line between news and entertainment is often blurred, and the half-naked body of a reported spy gracing a men’s magazine is no exception. Viewed as a criminal by most Americans, Chapman is now being esteemed and treated as a celebrity by her home country. The issue wouldn’t be as controversial, perhaps, if Maxim wasn’t an American-owned publication. The real question is: Will American men try to sneak a peak at Chapman’s appearance in Maxim, forgetting who she is and what she’s done?
