Donald Trump recently reported to CNN that he is facing more pressure than ever to run for president in 2012. The real estate giant only says he is thinking about a 2012 run for president reporting that people have asked him to run because of his instinct for business and people.
What could the host of the popular “The Apprentice” offer this country as the nation’s 45th president? Donald Trump is a billionaire with his early beginnings in the real estate industry. He was born on June 14, 1956, Flag Day. He grew up with his eye on his father’s accomplishments and assisted him in his real estate business. One might think Trump grew up in the lap of luxury. While it is true, he grew up quite comfortably; he also learned hard work and discipline in a military academy where he completed his middle school education. He was aggressive early on and learned what it took to get ahead.
While no one will argue with the business prowess of Trump, some might question if a real estate billionaire could possibly relate with the common working man. Donald Trump was not always a billionaire. When Trump first moved out on his own, it was to a dingy Manhattan apartment where he reported he was embarrassed to invite friends over. He walked the streets of New York to learn them and become familiar with their condition. While his first attempts at real estate investment in New York were unfruitful in the early eighties, he got his first big break by building a convention center on the former Penn Central Rail yards. He then went on to renovate the Commodore Hotel, which was renamed the Grand Hyatt Hotel. He went on from there to build Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.
Trump’s business dealings, however, have not always been so successful. After becoming heavily involved in building luxurious casinos, at one point in 1990, Trump was facing bankruptcy. He came out of his near disastrous financial situation, but not without having to give up control to many parts of his financial empire.
To his credit, Donald Trump regained his financial stronghold in the real estate industry and is one of the best known business names in the world. His near disaster financially, made him more cautious in his business dealings. Ninety-eight percent of Americans reportedly know his name.
Has fame and wealth and hosting a television show gone to Donald Trump’s head? Some might think so. Why don’t we ask his publicist? He doesn’t have one, only a long time assistant who returns reporters’ calls herself. He reportedly is one of the most accessible business men around.
What does America think? Would an accessible billionaire businessman who seems to resurface every time an investment goes bad make a good president? Many Americans think the answer to this question is yes. Donald Trump reports he has been asked for years to run for president but has never seriously considered it before but is seriously considering it because he cannot stand to see what is happening to the country. Everyone should keep their ears open for an announcement for a presidential run in 2012.
