When news got out a few weeks ago that Mel Gibson was going to be making a cameo in everyone’s favorite film ‘The Hangover’, people WERE NOT happy. This was no surprise since by now you probably have heard the “Mel rants” between he and ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. The courtroom war between Oksana and Mel is so unbelievable, I still question whether there will be credits rolling at the end. The two are embroiled in a bitter custody dispute and allegations such as Mel being abusive and Oksana leaking private details to the media in order to end Mel’s career and credibility have all been thrown around. This war has been going on since the summer of 2010. Oh, and to make this situation even worse, there’s a young baby in the center of it all – that seems to be the most heartbreaking part of Mel and Oksana’s endless courtroom drama.
There are currently all kinds of leaked tapes online of Mel cursing at his former girlfriend, Oksana, and calling her literally every single derogatory name you can think of. Mel also reportedly used all kinds of racial slurs throughout the leaked recordings. Since those recordings have leaked to the public Mel’s image took a severe hit. And it doesn’t help that in 2006 he was arrested for DUI and that’s when he went on his Anti-Semitic tirade.
Which brings us back to now – The ‘New York Post’ was the first to report that Mel was set to make a cameo in ‘The Hangover 2’. Apparently his team saw it as a way for him to clean up his image. From the moment Mel signed on to make his cameo in the film the “internal” backlash poured in. Actor Zach Galifianakis, one of the lead characters in ‘The Hangover’ was NOT happy about Mel being in the movie and Zach told the media, “…But a movie you’re acting in, you don’t have a lot of control – you just show up and vomit your lines out. I’m not the boss. I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen] … I’m not making any leeway….It has something to do with a movie I’m working on, yeah. I’ll tell you about it later. It’s very frustrating.” Zach released that to the media just one day after news broke that Mel was going to be making his cameo in the film, leading many people to speculate that quote was a direct hit at Mel.
So it comes as no shock that days after Zach released that comment to the media, it was announced that Mel would no longer be making his cameo in the film. While this was an extremely good idea on a PR level for Mel, it’s clear people still haven’t forgiven him so maybe a move like this was done too soon. Since Mel is out, it’s been reported that Liam Neeson will now take his place.
What do YOU think? Would you rather see Mel or Liam in ‘The Hangover 2’?
