Survivor Nicaragua is set to begin tonight on CBS at 8 p.m., as reported at CBS. The last Survivor winner was Sandra Diaz-Twine who beat out the resident villain Russell Hantz. The show is in its 21st season.
How will Survivor Nicaragua differ from previous Survivors?
Survivor, on the air since 2000, has not always enjoyed great ratings. Survivor: Heroes v. Villains did do well in attracting viewers, but what will Survivor Nicaragua accomplish? Every Survivor of recent past has changed it up a bit. This year they’re going to have a group of young people and a group of old people and they will also have a “medallion of power,” whatever that means. Will the youngins fighting against the old fogies, and this mysterious medallion, be enough to soak up more ratings? Or do we need another villain, like Russell Hantz, to do that? As Jackie Kass, a TV expert over at Examiner wrote, “Love him or hate him, Russell Hantz has been a ratings bonanza for Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, which is pulling in its best ratings in the show’s history.”
Jimmy Johnson is the most famous Survivor on Survivor Nicaragua
So who will win Survivor? Will it be a young person or an old person? Football coach turned sports analyst Jimmy Johnson is one of the members of Survivor Nicaragua. The 67-year-old Johnson, in a Survivor preview interview, says he is “obsessed” with the show.
Should we assume a young person will beat an old person just because of age? You won’t assume that if you’ve been watching previous Survivors. Contestants older than 30 have won. For examples, Tina Wesson and Tom Westman are Survivor winners and they won the coveted million in their 40’s. Robert “Bob” Crowley won in his 50’s. An older person who is in physically good shape, but who can also benefit from wisdom, is a strong combination against a spring chicken.
