If you told me during preseason that the Bears were going to be in first place going into the sixth week of the season, I would have asked you to check your prescriptions. Yet, that is exactly where we find them. Will they win the NFC North? Here is my best comprehensive look at the four teams and their schedules, with my idea of probable outcomes.
Let’s go to the NFL website and add up the numbers:
First, let’s look at the worst-looking team so far: the Minnesota Vikings. Brett Favre is 41 and it is showing, and it is going to take awhile to get Randy Moss in the groove. Their current record is 1-3.
Their next game is at home against Miami, win. Then they go to Green Bay for a loss. From there it is to New England for another loss. They will then host Arizona for a win. They head to my Bears for a loss and then home to host the Packers, but they will avenge their previous loss. Barring injury the next week, they will lose on the road to the Redskins. They will beat the Bills at home, lose to the Giants at home, they will beat the Bears at home, lose to Philly away and finally go to Detroit and lose. They will end up with a record of 6-10.
Detroit is currently 1-4. They will lose to the Giants away, beat the Redskins at home; they will lose to the Jets at home, beat the Bills away, beat Dallas away, lose to New England at home, beat the Bears at home, beat Green Bay at home, beat Tampa bay away, beat Miami away, beat the Vikings at home. The Lions will run the balls near the end of the season and end up 9-7. The Lions are a good team. They may even end up doing better than this. Mark my words, they haven’t given up. They would be my pick for surprise team of the division.
Green Bay is currently 3-2 but banged up. They will beat Miami and Minnesota at home. They will lose to the Jets away; they will beat Dallas at home. Then they will lose away at Minnesota and Atlanta. They will lose to the 49ers at home. They will lose in Detroit at New England and at home against the Giants. They will beat the Bears at the end of the season.
They will end up a dismal 7-9.
The Bears are currently 4-1. They will beat Seattle and the Redskins at home. They will beat the Bills away. They will beat Minnesota at home. They will beat Miami away. They will beat Philly at home. They will lose to Detroit away and will lose to New England. They will lose at Minnesota and lose to the Jets at home and Green Bay away.
They will be 10-6. They should win the NFC North, but with injuries and upsets, you never know.
