I love fresh flowers in my home, and come winter I want more than a poinsettia on my table. There are far more winter flowers than this Christmas favorite to adorn your table with all winter long! Who knew there were so many flowers that are perfect for winter bouquets?
Roses are my favorite in winter, for the romance they bring to a dull, cold season. I also love baby’s breath for the innocence, and carnations, just because. These are popular flowers that not only bloom in the colder seasons, but also are a great flower to have on your table to complement the colder seasons. I love baby’s breath mixed in with bright red roses for my table in the winter as opposed to poinsettias, which I don’t like at all (and are poisonous to animals).
If you want a flower that brings more joy to the household and really brightens up a room, lilies are a great choice, as are pansies and orchids. My fiance once surprised me with a bouquet of deep orange lilies, brown pansies, baby’s breath, and orange daisies, which brought a great Fall feel to the house and actually complemented my favorite color (brown) quite well. It was a beautiful, almost masculine bouquet that managed to still be romantic at the same time and looked great in my house all through November. I still have the dried bouquet on display to this day, and it still looks great.
For the spirit of Christmas, you can go far beyond the classic poinsettia with white roses, adorned with the Star of Bethlehem flowers. A great contrast to the traditional bud of Christmas and a great way to express the holidays without being too classic.
Visit your local floral shop for in-season flowers that can adorn your table in the winter months, and get some great ideas for beautiful flowers that complement the holidays ahead and make your house look and feel festive and homey. A little holiday bouquet can go a long way, and brings a lot more joy to the home than just settling for a poinsettia.
