Your Halloween party table always looks so much better when the dishes, foods and other things have a Halloween theme. Buying lots of special dishes and such can be pretty expensive but you never really have to do that. Make most of the foods and decorations yourself; the guests will never know, unless, of course, you tell them!
It’s easy to make many different Halloween decorations especially when you use ordinary bowls. Bowls can be turned into spiders, Halloween wreaths and even cauldrons. In fact, there’s a really easy cauldron decoration you can make and it has many uses. It can hold candy for the kids, dips for the party or even guests’ wash cloths in the bathroom.
Choose a plastic bowl that’s already black or select one you can paint. The best bowl is one that is actually bowl-shaped rather than a bowl shaped like a margarine bowl. If you’re going to paint the bowl it’s best to purchase spray paint made especially for plastic. That way, the paint doesn’t peel away and you can use the cauldron year after year. Paint always adheres better to plastic if you lightly sand it first with sandpaper.
Instead of a plastic bowl that you have to paint you can also use a plastic or ceramic bowl covered in tape. Use black tape to completely cover the bowl, inside and out. In addition to the bowl you’ll need three black beads. The beads should be large, round, wooden beads that you’ve painted black or colored with a black marker.
After the paint on the beads is dry glue them to the bottom of the bowl. Space them evenly apart and attach each one close to the edge so that it can easily be seen from the side. Use pipe cleaners to make the cauldron’s handle. Twist several of them together then glue the ends to the inside edges of the bowl. Instead of pipe cleaners you can use a shoelace wrapped around a wire, a piece of black plastic-coated wire, or even a piece of craft foam to make the handle.
You can embellish the cauldron centerpiece by placing some sticks on the table, wadding up some red, yellow and orange tissue paper, and use the sticks and paper as a fire under the cauldron. Set the finished cauldron on a table and fill with candy or even chip dip. Make a large one as a centerpiece and smaller ones to set around the house. They’re adorable and will last for years!
