The World Series schedule 2010 is set to begin tomorrow. The start of the World Series schedule 2010 is highly anticipated, even though the teams are not who anyone expected. But although the Rangers and Giants may not make as many headlines as the Yankees and Phillies, their aces may help make up for it. With Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum dueling in Game 1 at San Francisco, everyone expects a duel for the ages. But the pitching matchups for the rest of the World Series schedule will determine who wins a long awaited championship.
Lee and Lincecum are the ideal pitchers to get their teams on the right foot. However, Lee is considered to have the edge, given his perfect postseason. At this time last year, he started the 2009 World Series by shutting down the Yankees in Game 1 at New York.
Despite starting the World Series schedule 2010 at home, the Giants are still considered at a disadvantage against Lee. There is even doubt about Lincecum, after two occasionally spotty starts, and one even spottier relief appearance, in the NLCS.
If Lincecum can’t come through, then the Giants will look to stay alive behind Matt Cain in Game 2. Cain was saved for Game 3 of the NLCS, where he handcuffed the Phillies. Since Jonathan Sanchez did poorly in the NLCS, and since Cain hasn’t given up a run in the postseason, he has been restored as the Giants’ second ace.
For the Rangers, C.J. Wilson is trusted to follow Lee, which he has done well most of the time. Yet Wilson was torched in Game 5 of the ALCS, so he needs to return to his form from Game 2 of the ALDS, and Game 1 of the ALCS. If Lee actually loses tomorrow night, then the pressure will truly be on Wilson.
Once the World Series schedule 2010 reaches Arlington, the Rangers will be expected to have the pitching advantage again. Colby Lewis closed out the pennant for the Rangers, and had two wins in the ALCS. Meanwhile, Jonathan Sanchez struggled in his two NLCS starts, although getting taken out early in Game 6 helped the Giants win.
Game 4 won’t be one between aces, as Madison Bumgarner and Tommy Hunter won’t be expected to go deep. This may be a matchup between bullpens, which would presumably favor the Giants. If the Rangers are up 2-1 going into Game 4, with Lee waiting in Game 5, this may be do-or-die for the Giants.
If the rest of the World Series schedule 2010 is necessary, then Lee will face Lincecum again in Game 5, with Cain and Wilson dueling in Game 6, and a seventh game coming down to Sanchez and Lewis. Of course, if it does go the limit, then Lee, Lincecum and the other aces could be thrown in for relief.
But first, the World Series schedule begins with the two biggest aces left, as Lee and Lincecum head out tomorrow night at 7:57 pm est on FOX.
