Live from Miami, Florida, the WWE broadcast its 24th annual Survivor Series. But this is one of the most dramatic events as the match for the WWE Championship is on the line with John Cena as the special guest referee. The stakes? Free or fired. If Wade Barrett wins the match, John Cena is free from the Nexus. But if current WWE Champion Randy Orton remains the champion, Wade Barrett will fire John Cena from the WWE.
Via Twitter and on the most recent episode of Raw, John Cena has promised to call the match down the middle and whoever wins will have earned it. It is clear that this will not be an easy night for Cena or the WWE Universe. But Cena has promised to lay waste to Wade Barrett regardless of the outcome.
But for now, let’s turn our attention to the other matches on the program for tonight:
United States Championship Match: Ted DiBiase vs. United States Champion Daniel Bryan
Winner: United States Champion Daniel Bryan via submission
While celebrating his victory, Mr. Money in the Bank, The Miz, assaults Daniel Bryan with his Money in the Bank briefcase along his apprentice Alex Riley. I’m not sure what his purpose in the ring is but he is comparing LeBron James and Wade Barrett. Sounds like someone is still a little sore about LeBron James leaving Cleveland for the Miami Heat. The Miz says that he is tired of carrying the briefcase and the question that remains only is when he will cash in his contract.
Backstage with Josh Matthews and Sheamus. What is Sheamus’ reaction to being called a bully? He thinks this is all about the fact that he has been WWE Champion and Morrison has not. I really don’t think that’s the reason, but Sheamus has always been on his own page.
Sheamus v. John Morrison
Winner: John Morrison via pinfall
Backstage with John Cena and R-Truth discussing the match against Wade Barrett and Randy Orton. R-Truth offers to make an “accident” happen to Randy Orton
Intercontinental Championship Match: Kaval vs. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler
Winner: Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler via pinfall (barely)
This match came about from this past Friday on SmackDown when Kaval picked up his first win against Ziggler. After beating him, he invoked his prize from winning the second season of NXT which is a championship match of his choice at a Pay Per View event. And here we are.
Backstage with Todd Grisham and Jack Swagger who is on Team del Rio. He is upset that the team isn’t named after him and that he isn’t really in Miami, but really Little Cuba. Cody Rhodes says Swagger is upset because he couldn’t get into a club last night because of his busted shoes. Alberto Del Rio, Drew McIntyre and Tyler Reks show up to remind them that this is about taking down Rey Mysterio and making the little children cry. Geez, what a pep talk!
Traditional Survivor Series 5 Man Tag Team Elimination Match: The Big Show, Chris Masters, Kofi Kingston, MVP, and Team Captain Rey Mysterio v. “Dashing” Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, Tyler Reks, and Team Captain Alberto Del Rio
Winners: Team Mysterio (with the Survivors being Rey Mysterio and The Big Show)
What a great match but the best part was when The Big Show knocked out Alberto Del Rio!
Backstage with Josh Matthews and Randy Orton but Orton doesn’t want to talk about John Cena. He is thinking about how he is going to be Wade Barrett and retain the WWE Championship and that John Cena should hope he gets fired instead of feeling the wrath of Randy Orton. All he cares about is giving Wade Barrett a punt to the skull or an RKO.
2 on 1 Handicapped Match for the Divas Championship: Diva Co-Champions LayCool v. Natalya
Winner: New Divas Champion Natalya via submission (the Sharpshooter)
And being the sore losers that LayCool are, they ambush Natalya but Beth Phoenix, who had been out with an injury courtesy of LayCool, has come to her aid! Welcome back Beth Phoenix!
World Heavyweight Championship Title Match: World Heavyweight Champion Kane v. Edge
Winner: World Heavyweight Champion Kane via a draw
This was a tough match. But just when Edge thought he had won, the contest results in a draw or tie and leaves the championship with Kane. And with that, Kane tries to beat out of Edge the information that would lead him to find his father Paul Bearer. But Edge fought back, got Kane in the big wheelchair he entered the arena with, and used it to shove Kane into a barricade.
Backstage with John Cena and Wade Barrett. Barrett asks if Cena remembers this building. This past June was when Cena was still WWE Champion and the Nexus gave Cena a beat down. Barrett thinks this is fate that everything has come full circle. He tells Cena to do the right thing so that he will be free of Nexus forever. But if he doesn’t, his life will be miserable. Cena says that he remembers every single thing Nexus has done to him and that when the time is right he knows exactly what he is doing.
WWE Tag Team Championship Title Match: WWE Tag Team Champions Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel v. Santino Marella and Vladimir Koslov
Winners: WWE Tag Team Champions Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel
Santino and Koslov won the right to compete in this match by beating The Usos this past Monday when Raw when Old School.
Just as always, when it comes to a Nexus match, they interfered and retained the championship. However, the anonymous Raw GM emailed instructions to remind Nexus that they are banned from ringside during the WWE Championship match. And if any member of Nexus interferes, the Nexus will be suspended indefinitely.
WWE Championship Title Match: WWE Champion Randy Orton v. Wade Barrett.
Special stipulations: If Randy Orton wins, John Cena is fired. If Wade Barrett wins, John Cena is free from the Nexus. The Nexus is banned from ringside or they will be indefinitely suspended.
Winner: WWE Champion Randy Orton
John Cena’s fate: Fired?
There has been so many close calls in the match that Wade Barrett is upset with John Cena for not doing the three count faster. This can’t be easy for John Cena as half of the crowd chants, “Let’s Go Cena” while the other half chants, “Cena Sucks.” Barrett even got to the point that he shoved John Cena before Orton was able deliver an RKO and pick up the win. It looked like Cena might have shoved Barrett into that RKO.
Cena removes his officials shirt and Nexus arm band and Nexus rushes in to give him a a beat down but Orton and Cena are able to fight them back. Cena gets the belt from announcer Justin Roberts to present to Randy Orton and they hug like the good sportsman that they are.
We assume that John Cena is fired but Wade Barrett hasn’t actually said the words yet. Orton leaves the arena with John Cena composing himself in a corner of the ring wondering what his fate is now.
Assuming that he is fired, John Cena take off his CeNation wrists bands and lays them in the middle of the ring while the crowd chants his name and gives them a salute before leaving the ring to say goodbye to the announcers and fans as he heads back to the locker room area.
