X3 Terran Conflict Review
You’re sitting in the captain’s seat, when suddenly the frigate next to you explodes and you have no hope. Yet an Argon carrier jumps in and advises you to retreat. You refuse to and get blown to pieces, sending debris everywhere. X3 Terran Conflict allows you to accomplish these amazing feats. X3 Terran Conflict is a simulation/role playing game set in a distressed universe. The player can do as he likes, become an infamous pirate, create a substantial trading empire, build stations, become a mercenary, and much more.
X3 Terran Conflict doesn’t allow for character customization but it makes up for that fact. There are over 150 cool sectors to interact with, items, weapons and obviously ships. There are ten different alien races with which you can interact. Each race has its own exclusive ships, weapons, stations and more. X3 Terran Conflict often scares players away due to its huge learning curve and 110 page manual. The player will feel useless in the big universe especially in combat situations where the player might panic. But if you continue on, you will find that once you learn how to play, it will turn into an exciting and clever adventure.
The main goal of the game is whatever the players want it to be. For example, the player might want to set up a trading empire of grand proportions or have a huge fleet that can wipe out anything in its path. But be careful, for every single decision will affect you and everything around you. With thousands of different possible combinations, the player can do anything to fit his style of play. For example, I once set a goal to wipe out one of the races (I didn’t succeed). I ended up being blown up about 50 times but owning almost one billion credits (in game currency).
The game has a very intricate storyline, which requires the player to understand all the different points of views to fully grasp it. There are start off positions that the player will be able to choose from such as “Humble Merchant” or “Bankrupt Assassin”. As the player plays all the points of view he will be able to understand the captivating storyline. The universe is about to collapse and it’s up to you to make it worse or save it. With the impending Xenon threat and the pirates, the universe is in jeopardy. The choice is yours, but as I mentioned before every choice affects you and everything around you.
Traversing the expansive X3 Terran Conflict universe is not inflexible. The easy to use interface allows the player to manage their empire, ship, and more. The autopilot feature allows a player to be a ghastly pilot but be able to move about the universe in an efficient manner. Your ship will also inform you of the names of objects in space and their descriptions, making understanding the vast number of items easy. Though this interface is hard to get used to and learn to use, once you do, you will be able to traverse the universe in an efficient, sleek and intelligent manner.
X3 Terran Conflict features many different weapons, items, ships and more. The player will be able to trade over 200 items across the universe, as well as illegal ones too, such as “Space fuel” .There are many weapons giving the player many different options of obliteration. There are big ships, small ships, ships of all kinds. There are several classes of ships, M1 being carriers, M2 being destroyers, M3-M5 being fighters, heaviest to lightest, M6 corvettes and lastly M7 bombers. There are also some concealed items in space that the player will discover. These different items make the game intriguing and entertaining to play.
X3 Terran Conflict has a colossal community of players online where you can visit the forums. The community is friendly and helpful allowing the player to ask questions and get answers. There are also many people that create modifications for the game, extending gameplay even more. If the player knows or is willing to learn coding, he can also create these modifications. One of my favorites is the “conflicts” modification which makes the AI react even better in the game.
Many people have tried making a space game as fascinating as X3 Terran Conflict but few have succeeded in this problematical genre. Though X3 has a huge learning curve, if the player manages to get past that it will provide 100’s of hours of entertainment, and who knows you might discover something unique in the universe of X3 Terran Conflict.
