Going to work for most people is something they dread. Some people hate the commute to their job, while others hate co-workers. Some people have the boss from hell, while others have a boss that just hearing their name causes stress. It’s truly rare to find a person who is completely happy with their job and jumps out of bed to go to work.
If you’re one of those people that dreads some part of their job, there are a few things you can do to make things just a little better.
Make your work space into your personal space. If you’re allowed to put up pictures of loved ones, do so. If you’re able to change your computer background or screensaver, change that to something you enjoy. If you’re able to use things like plants to livin the place up. If you’re not allowed to add to your work space, buy a special perfume or cologne to wear. Splurge on more comfortable shoes. Have something you enjoy at your place of work or that you can wear, so you feel a little better about yourself or where you spend your working hours.
Always know your purpose at a job. For many a job is something they do but after a while, they loose focus on why they applied for the job. When you look for a job, find a job that you’re passionate about. If you really enjoy time with children, running a daycare or working in a children’s hospital might be for you. If you’ve taken a job you no longer like or feel passionate about, that’s a good sign to start looking for a new job. When you feel good about the job you do, there is some satisfaction and happiness in doing your job well.
If you’re dreading a deadline or project, try doing that task in the middle of the day. Set your day up so you have a simple, easy task to complete right away. That will leave you feeling like you’ve accomplished something. Also, by doing the dreaded task in the middle of the day, you can do something easy, simple and enjoyable towards the end of the day, leaving you in a better mood after work.
If you’re feeling stressed or tense at work, use some time to go for a walk. A quick 5 minute walk can be a good way to get your brain refocused and blood moving so you don’t feel so stiff. A quick walk can give you new perspective on a project that has you a little stressed out or frustrated.
Lastly, don’t forget to smile at work. A smile will not only make you feel better but your co-workers will smile too. Smiles are contagious. When people around you are smiling, you can’t help but feel a little better about being at work.
If you’ve tried hard to be happy at your job but just can’t, it’s time to look for a new job. When you do something you enjoy for a living, it hardly feels like work. When you dread what you do for a living, work can seem like torture day after day, soon your attitude will turn negative and all around life will be affected. It’s important to work a job that you’re passionate about.
